Hey everyone, I posted this in Behaviors and Egg Laying but got nothing back so hoping for some help here. I got my chickens nearly a week ago, three of which were said to be laying. One has begun to lay. The other two I'm still waiting on and I'm totally fine with that but one of the two who hasn't started yet has been acting a bit strange the past few days. Today is day three. She sits in the dormant garden bed in their current section of backyard A LOT of the day. Not all of the day. She does get up, walk around normally with her tail up, boss everybody around for a bit, eats and drinks normally. But when she goes and she sits her tail is very often kind up up and jutted out and her but seems to be pulsing. I can see it from afar, it looks like her whole bottom is moving up and down. They're new to me so they don't fully trust me yet so I can't get close enough to look at her up close without catching her, which I did and her vent pulses a bit but not intensely..... I'm too scared to stick a finger up there, I have no gloves or lubrication. When it's raining she goes inside the coop and sits down immediately. The weird part is she acts healthy and happy when she's walking around but she sits for a good 65-75% of the day. She's not aggressive and isn't picking chest feathers or anything so don't think she's broody. There are eggs being layed and she isn't sitting on them. I lost one of my girls already who I didn't realize was sick with sour crop when I bought her so I'm super paranoid now. I don't want to lose any more of my hens. I thought I was going to be this great chicken keeper and I'm feeling like a chicken killer . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
