I have several bard rock. They were laying nice brown eggs. However, recently they have become almost white. It Is cold here and several have been molting. Is this the cause or are they missing something in their feed?

Welcome to BYC. I'm glad you decided to join our flock. There are a number of factors that can cause a loss of brown pigment in the egg shells including stress caused by either cold, molting, a move, overcrowding, or a perceived predator threat on the part of the hens; old age; a poor diet or ingestion of certain chemicals such as sulfonamides; or viral diseased such as Newcastle or infectious bronchitis. Hopefully by examining all of these possibilities, you will be able to figure out the cause of the loss of pigment in your BR eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

They probably need more calcium in their diet. Make sure they either have crushed, rinsed eggshells or oyster shells available all day. Age also could influence it.
