Egg custard : how to cook in custard cups instead of pie shell???????

I loved my mother's egg custard, but never got her recipe. Have tried several but hit THE ONE this past weekend with the recipe on King Arthur flour site. Cooked it in bought pie shells, it is exactly like the one I remember. But I would like to cook it in 1/2 cup custard cups instead of in a pie shell.

How do you do that? I'm not great at cooking and hope someone will advise step by step.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could find a cookbook that didn't survive our move 10yrs ago! I don't have the exact recipe however I remember having to bake them with the custard cups in a casserole dish half filled with water so the custard wouldn't burn...
