I hope someone could help me. I have 8 RIR and I have had them for about 1 1/2 years. They are fantastic layers but recently I've noticed that I only get 2 or 3 eggs when normally I get 7 or 8. I leave early in the morning and dont get home till 4 or 5 in the afternoon. I have one chicken that destroys the eggs and eats them, shells and all. How can I stop her without being home? Why is she doing this? I think its only the one chicken because I've seen her, but I dont want her to teach the others bad habits.HELP!

I think that's really a hard habit to break unless you can be there. You are lucky if you know which hen is doing it then maybe cull her? [IMG]

Can you separate her from the others? That way if she eats one it will only be hers.

I could try.. Ive even thought of leaving an egg with something really nasty tasting on it so she wont try it. (thats how I stopped
biting my nails!) but not sure if chickens have taste buds:he

Try everything and if you are really committed to her then separate her. I have a big fear that mine will start to do this too as I do not live right next to my coop either. Best of luck to you.
