Egg Eating Chickens

    Do the black oil sunflower seeds really work?? I've tried everything else (dummy eggs, mustard, oyster shells) and chicken are going to the auction soon!.

    I don't think any supplements will just cure confirmed egg eaters. Lots of fake eggs in the nests and collecting eggs really often may help. A good quality diet with 18+ percent protein may help also. Roll away nests (where the egg rolls to a compartment where the chickens can't get too them after they are laid) are probably the only really effective way of stopping egg eating if you can't break them off the habit. Egg eating is a reason why I will remove a bird from my flock, especially since it does seem to be a learned habit that they can teach to other hens.
