egg laying question......

Do hens literally "sit" on the egg they lay? Or do they "pose" over it without putting all their weight on it in order to not break it?

I do think they actually sit on them. Eggs are surprisingly strong. Try this - (On a surface easily cleaned...perhaps in the sink or on a cookie sheet.) Put an egg wherever you are going to do it, on its side. Put your hand on top of it and press. You'll be surprised how much pressure it can take.
