Egg Oddity

A weird egg showed up in the nest box this afternoon. It was soft to the squeeze, but yet still kind of fine sandpaper like on the outside. It also looked like it wasn’t formed into a circle and frankly, looked like an organ of some sort. When we cut it open it was a normal egg yolk inside just like any other egg. Not sure if this is related or not, but we did lose a hen last night. Not sure how yet, it was just gone this morning. Maybe a predator while free ranging. Either way my wife thinks one of the other chickens picked this organ up and drug it back into the coop to try to save it, like a movie. Can someone please take a look at the pictures and give their opinion on what may be going on here. Thanks!
