HAS ANYONE OUT THERE CROSS-BRED A *WHITE LEGHORN* rooster to a *RHODE ISLAND RED* hen? If so, can you tell me what the EGG PRODUCTION is like (color, size, frequency in laying, etc..)? I read that this particular cross outlays the org. pure breed.

Last year, I decided I wanted chickens. I purchased RIR baby chicks. They are now 9 month old laying hens and lay SMALL eggs. I have to say, I'm disappointed in the egg size. The chickens are great and when they are in the hen box laying, I pet them. We even named them: Lucy & Ethel, Thelma & Louise and Lavern & Shirley.
It's a long story, but I accidentally ordered Cornish Cross; I thought they were WL birds. It was too late to cancel; they shipped by the time I noticed the error. So we kept 4 of the 16 and those JUMBO LADIES are still alive and laying LARGE eggs. I even crossed them with BO rooster and hatched some nice chicks.
