    Hello All,
First time building an incubator...spent one week building and calibrating temp and humidity...been running good for three days now....

My 110V automatic egg turner came in today and I set everything up...once the egg tuner was powered up, it started to rotate, but too fast...instead of one rotation per 2 hours, it was in seconds...the spec on the motor is 3r/min...

after doing some research, I realize the speed is controlled by the incubator controller...is this correct...

My incubator is a DYI and there is no controller....is it possible to put in a timer to rotate the eggs fast for 15 mins at a time...

    thanks

Does the motor have some spec's on it, working voltage, etc? If its turning way to fast I would think the voltage it to high??

    its a 110ac motor with 2.5r/3r/min spec

    I attached a pic of the motor[IMG]

The 3r/min means 3 revolutions per minute. It sounds like you are correct that it needs a controller. I believe it turns clockwise and counter clockwise with the voltage being reversed by the controller. The motor you are probably looking for turns 1/240 a minute or a quarter of a turn an hour and is plugged directly to an ac source,

I was afraid of that....so is OK to turn the eggs that fast while incubating :)

Not constantly. But 3 or 4 times a day yes.

until I get a new motor, do you think running it (constantly 30mins) 4 times a day would be ok

    thanks

I think that would be too much movement. The eggs would be tilted side to side 90 times in that 30 minute time frame. The 1/240 motor tilts the eggs 6 complete times in a 24 hour period. Using the face of a clock for reference, the 1/240 motor basically tilts the eggs from 10 to 2 in a 4 hour period then from 2 to 10 in the next 4 hour period and repeats the process every 4 hours. Your motor does the 10 to 2 tilt in 20 seconds. Your motor would make 90 complete revolutions in 30 minutes. Every revolution tilts the eggs from 10 to 2 or 2 to 10.
In my opinion, it would be better to "manually" turn them once or twice or three times a day, by plugging the turner in and unplugging for 20 seconds. That is until you get the correct motor. I would be willing to bet that a hen doesn't turn every single egg in her nest 6 times a day every day.

thanks all for your help...I will manually turn during the test run until I get new motor...
