This my first hatch of any kind and I don't know any one else personally that has hatched out their own chicks so no one understands how excited and nervous I am. I can't seem to tear myself away from the incubator window. I've made two loaves of bread, done tons of laundry, hand washed all of my dishes and some how have still wasted hours running upstairs to peak at the progress (which by the way is depressingly slow). I may go crazy before they even show up! :D

Welcome to the world of chicken raising and hatching. Feel free to ask questions or to just ramble. I will reply. I have chicks hatching any day and there are only two eggs surviving. Mostly, I use broody hens instead of incubators. More chicks hatching next week and the week after that.

I've got 19 eggs under two hens as well. So far 4 have started in the incubator, only 23 more to worry about. I was hoping to see one before I got to sleep but I doubt I'll be sleeping much. I had no idea how much I'd worry about them. I may do mostly broody hens from here on out.

I'm with you. I've got 2 of 7 pipping tonight. I won't be home all day tomorrow (live remotely in Hawaii and it's our day to shop, go figure!). But probably good otherwise I would be glued to the incubator freaking out! This is my first hatch. I've also got 6 eggs under silkie sisters due the first of May. Anxiety!!!

Last night was on and off again sleep. Woke up to two babies out and the first one to pip was stuck in his membrane my humidity is up, but I think he rolled too close to another egg to get out quick enough, lesson learned! I helped him wet the membrane and broke the small strand he missed and POP! Number three. 15 mins later another one up and squirming about. So 4 down, 5 or 6 more have pipped. I've got a toddler and a baby, 2 feeder pigs in my kitchen, and chicks hatching up stairs. So much life in this old cabin!!! Good luck Island Juli! Keep us updated![IMG]

4 hatched so far. 3 to go, with only 1 pip. Will give them some time before I give up. The tiniest silkie egg hatched, she's the tiny mostly yellow one. [IMG][/IMG][IMG]

One more hatched, one left with a pip. The other doesn't look good. I don't see an internal pip. But going to leave it a couple days. [IMG]

I took the other 4 out and put under the MHP. They were walking all over the newest one. They were fluffed out and noisy, so even though they were only a few hours old I think they were ready to be out of the 'bator.

Hard part now is they are already sold. Telling myself to not get attached. Easier said than done.

Aw! They are just adorable. Congrats, we made it with out going completely crazy! I've got 17 in all, 2 more pipped, and 8 more waiting. All of my chicks are mix breeds from black and red sexlinks, but the black ones look like copper marans. Are you going to hatch out more soon? This feels like it may become an addiction here! I've got a bunch of fertile ducks eggs any time I want from a neighbor down the way and my little hamster wheel is turning trying to figure out if my husband will commit me if I hatch out 20...lmbo!
