Eggs on day 20, float test?

I ordered some shipped eggs and had a bit of a difficult incubation. I was able to hatch out two chicks, although one needed an assisted hatching. I was really expecting more babies this hatch, and I want more. Especially because I ordered them for cool colors and only got two Italians. I know it’s unlikely for them to hatch after day 18, but should I do the float test? I would check for pips first but I want to know if this would just bother them more. I’d like to have my bators back soon, so I can figure out how to better my humidity levels.

Never float test potentially live eggs. Please. It's a good way to kill chicks.

Have you candled? Checking for pips is far less invasive and damaging than a float test.

When I candle, I look for movement. For an internal pip, you'll see the chick extended into the air cell. External pips are pretty easy to see. It will be a crack in the egg. If they've externally pipped, but you're not seeing movement, tap on the egg and hold it next to your ear. You might hear cheeping or tapping in response.

I'm in northern CA. I have my CA egg handler's license, so I can ship to you now that the New Castle's quarantine has been lifted.

Every 45 minutes may have been a bit excessive on turning. I would also guess that your temperature was a bit low as well from the late hatch.

I have a pansy fee pen, a celadon pen, and a mixed pen.

Oh thank you that’s a good idea. Is there an article you recommend that shows me what I’m looking for? I’ve only ever candled to see development, not pips. And I imagine it’ll be harder with quail eggs vs chicken eggs.

Day 25 is really late. To be honest day 20 is pretty late, but not beyond possibility. Pips look like cracks in the eggs. It can take up to 24 hours between pip and zip.

If the pips have been there more than 24 hours, I would definitely try candling and tapping on them.

Oh you sell hatching eggs? Where are you located? What do you sell? Also, i'm reading the article and it says eggs need to be turned every 3-6 hours, mine were on an auto timer to turn every 45 mins. Was this too much? I'm looking for as many improvements as I can for my next hatch
