Electricity in the coop

When I built my coop, I installed a male inlet on the outside so I could run an extension cord so that I could run electricity to it in the winter for heated water or any other time for temporary service. After having the girls(and 1 boy) in there for about a month, I realize how dusty it is. I put a plug on the side where the birds are for the water dish. It sets about 12 to 18 inches off the floor. I have wrapped the plug with electricians tape, something I do for all plugs. I've been debating whether this is a good setup or not. My concerns are whether or not the dust or straw for the flooring will cause fire issues. What are your thoughts? Any electricians on here to voice an opinion? Thanks in advance.

You can purchase a "bubble cover" that screw into the receptacle and covers it entirely. They aren't very expensive and they have hidden hinges for easy opening and closing.
