About six weeks ago, I noticed that one of my Americanaus was missing. I couldn't figure out where she had gone. I live in a harsh, COLD area, with lots of snow. She had just disappeared! Well, the weather has been improving, so I let the gals free range today and my boys later put them back in the barn while I was out. A few hours ago, I went out to check on them and look for eggs and I noticed that one of the two chickens that I had put coats on was missing hers. I looked around to see if I could find the coat and I saw the two chickens with their coats on! I realized I was looking at Eliza, my missing chicken!!!!! I went to pet her and she gave me her attitude and squacked, but she let me pet her as if to say that she was happy to be home!
One of my sons later told me, he was watching from inside the house when the others were putting the birds away and suddenly saw a chicken, kind of reluctantly run across the yard and into the barn when the others went in. I wonder where she was all this time and how she survived with the harsh weather and all the preditors about? I am delighted that she is home though!
