what time of the year do they usually lay?

They can start breeding in Sept, start laying anytime after that, then normally take a break and start up in spring/summer if I remember. I know my first emu chick I ever bought was in Nov.
Now i still have to find another female.... and I have to get Pumba DNA tested to see what he/she is for sure. [IMG]
