Ever heard of Bile Duct Cancer?

Yes. It is basically identical to gallbladder cancer, but begins in the duct that joins the gallbladder to the liver. Although it certainly can be treated, it typically is invasive by the time it is found and treatment is usually palliative...not curative. Surgery is the first step in treating if it is possible. Because of the many veins and arteries that run through that area, the tumor is easily wound around them and in many cases, surgery just isn't an option. Next would be radiation therapy followed by chemotherapy. Typically that treatment may extend survival a few months.

I'm so sorry for your friends diagnosis. It stinks...
