    Yep, just last week in fact, from my Welsummer. Looks like an extra thick layer of bloom.

    Thanks for the reply. Does it signify an illness? What is "bloom?" I'll research it. Is your Welsummer doing okay?

    Bloom is the protective coating put on the egg as it is laid. The egg comes out wet and dries in seconds. Not sure if these funky eggs signal illness; my hen has other, shall we say, psychological issues. [​IMG] There is a thread somewhere full of weird egg pics just like yours.

    What do you mean by psychological issues? Is she a broody type?
