In about 1 week, I will have my shipment of brown egg layers from MM.

I am SO excited! I've been such a geek, pouring over the catalog nightly, studying on feathersite. I've always ordered specific breeds - the only surprises have been the "free rare chick".

I'm baffled, currently. Worrying about something I shouldn't be worried about yet - but this is why I'm suggesting you all brace yourselves...

I will be asking for help (with lots of pics) to determine what breeds I actually get. I think the only obvious one will be the NNs [IMG]

How in the world will I be able to tell the difference between:

    Buff Rocks and Buff Orps
Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, Black Giants, White Giants and Black Stars
Partridge Rocks, RIRs, NHRs and Red Stars
    White Rocks, White Orps, Delawares

I THINK I'll be able to make out the Wyandottes...maybe...by their combs...

Anyway, just gear yourselves...'cause I'll be back in about a week HAHA

Orps will have whitish legs, Rocks have yellow/orangey legs

Australorps have greyish legs, and should be all black
BR's will have white on them
Not sure about the rest. Start at the legs and move up!
I think MM has pictures of chicks, if not Welp does

Looking forward to seeing the pictures

I'm just GLAD to see the addiction continuing to CLAIM such weathered regulars and drag them into BRANCHING out. LOL.

I am not the only one to be grabbed by other breeds...

Cyn lol don't you go picking on her, I heard you mention a new "project" you have to put on the back burner because of that ankle. Chuckle.

My name is Cher and I'm a chickenaholic. And I'm in very good company...

Well, Miss Kate has already branched out into the Ameraucanas, so who knows what else is coming, LOL. I gave her a pretty blue Ameraucana pullet last year and she's enjoyed her alot, I think. Maybe she'll convert me to the Polish ....Um, er, well, no. LOL.

Quote:LOLOL Yeah that sounds about right. Ponder finally decided to join all the ranging poultry today. I'm afraid I was spoiling her terribly so she would rather be hand fed in the coop than go out and free range where the other girls would pick on her.

I definitely need a group of barreds for her little self to fit in with eventually. The Del will help. And Halo's eggs, and and... oh my...
