Hi I had the pleasure of looking after my neighbours chickens whilst they were away, I enjoyed them so much I would like my own, I really want to rescue ex battery chickens and give them the best in life I can, any advice would be greatly received! Thanks

Rescueing battery hens can be both enormously rewarding and heartbreaking. One of our members, @Johnn rescues and rehabilites ex-batts, you can read about his experiences here:

I'm sure he'd be happy to give you some tips and advice. Here is another good read about rescued hens:

Best of luck with your venture!

Yes, it is very rewarding to rescue birds that otherwise would not have a second chance at an enjoyable life. Sumi has left you with some great links. There are several of them her on BYC. Here is another link as well. This woman really knows her stuff on ex battery hens....https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/855553/where-do-you-get-rescue-battery-hens-from

Enjoy all your adventure with them and welcome to our flock!

Thank you everyone, all your replies are very helpful and much appreciated :))

It is heart warming to see the difference in photos and videos in ex-batt hens AND then afterwards when they have morphed into REAL live chickens.
