Hello BYC Community!
I am a new fancier who is in Maine. I am hoping to meet some breeders and the like who could point me in the direction of chicks in the spring........I'd prefer to buy local instead of from a hatchery (if I can). If not, then hatchery it is!
I have *no* chickens
.... yet. I want to plan for this next spring.
I went to the Deerfield Fair in NH a few weeks back, and then to the Poultry show the following Sunday. I already wanted chickens, (I love birds, and fresh eggs), but these two events really cemented it for me.
There are some breeds in particular that I am interested in. I do not want any bantams, I want to have all standard/heavy breeds. I want some layers, and some more for their beauty and personality.
Hope to meet lots of you, get tips on all sorts of things, there is soooooo much good information here.
