These have been sold! Thanks! We have a pair of Exhibition quality Rhode Island Red single comb large fowl. These were hatched in March 2010 by www.AFFPoultry.com out of the Superior Farms dispersal and are some of the best lines in America for production and exibition. Pictured is one of the sires. We will post photos of the pair asap. One of the best known breeds, the RIR is a good layer of large brown eggs and as a dual purpose breed also can supply a fair-sized roaster. The hens will rarely go broody and can produce around 260 eggs per year. Developed in Rhode Island in the 1830s, various breeds were used in their makeup, including Malays, Cochins and Brown Leghorns. The single combed variety was admitted to the APA's Standard of Perfection in 1904 and the rose combed birds a year later. The cock will weigh about 8 1/2 pounds and the hens run about one pound lighter. Shipping: We will consider shipping under these conditions. Buyer provides a USPS shipping box (Read sticky at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=252070 to learn more) and buyer pays all shipping. Temps must be safe for birds to ship. We can accept payment now and board (for a small fee for feed only) until it is cooler. Call if you have any questions or post your questions on this thread.
