Why would/should I pay that for "Buying shipped hatching eggs you MUST understand that there is no guarantee you will get one single solitary chick."

 There has got to be a better way to get a Jubilee Orpington. Seems I read there IS a way to know if an egg is fertile. Yes, no?

Hatching soon and available!

As a breeder, I understand what goes into getting and keeping good stock and the heavy culling done to achieve it, justifying the price.

However, Cackle is decent regarding hatcheries.. and Jubilee Orp, Lav Orp, Ayam Cemani, lav Ameraucana or Ameraucana in general.. and everything else that was once rare becomes readily available once popular and in demand!

ETA: yes fertility is easy to check.. viability after shipping changes depending on how far they go, the weather, and how rough the postal handling was.. haugh unit diminishes with shipping and NO seller can guarantee YOUR incubation conditions, power outages, etc.

ETAA: Some states provide NPIP for very affordable prices while others are outrageous.

Why not order chicks from a hatchery?
I know there are several --- here is the link to the one I buy from. I've always had good luck, live healthy chicks, and good service. It appears they are taking orders now for Jubilee Orpingtons, hatching on Aug. 3rd., for a whole lot less money.

Good looking out all who provided link. I have an order shipping on the 3rd, but when I ordered last week no JO were available, uggghhhh. The minimums are what is killing me with hatcheries. I was thinking IF I got eggs I could get what I want without having to buy extras that I won't have housing for.

I didn't know, either. I just had to look it up - thankfully, BYC has an article on it already:

According to @Kuntry Klucker , "In short NPIP stands for National Poultry Improvement Plan. The NPIP is a voluntary program overseen by the United States of Agriculture (USDA) and managed by each state. The program monitors flocks and hatcheries for a variety of serious diseases that can devastate chicken populations and create serious problems for the poultry industry or backyard chicken enthusiasts."

Uwwww, thanks, Chica! :)

I don't even know what "NPIP" means, but had so many questions I did not want to inundate and add that question.
It doesn't mean anything except they tested negative for disease that practically doesn't even exist. Do not think that NPIP means healthy. It is not true.

Each of the 50 states have different requirements in order to become a member of the NPIP.
All 50 states... Your flock has to test negative for PT.
A few of the states your top flock has to text negative for AI.

There is no testing for many of the other nasty diseases that go around.

Never, and I mean never buy birds or eggs from anyone a backyard breeder, unless you can thoroughly investigate them.
