Eye Injury

Hello,

I have a hen that was probably poked in the eye my another hen and now her eye is slightly swollen and partially shut. Does anyone know what I can use to decrease the swelling? It does not look like it is infected.

Flush with sterile saline solution. You can get it at the pharmacy next to the contact lense solution. I use a small pump spray bottle that I also got at the pharmacy and use that to mist the eye. It works much better than trying to hold their eye open and get drops in there, at least for me. Depending on how bad the injury is I would probably start antibiotics as a preventative but that's just me.
