My chicken had her eye closed the last day and i thought maybe she’d gotten something in it but would pass. Today it was swollen shut and I pulled this out of her eye. She seems to have her eye open normal now. I put a saline solution in it and i’m hoping that maybe it was a piece of food or something that expanded. If it isn’t should I be giving her vet rx or something?

I have had the same/similar problem. An eye where the pus (for lack of a better word) gets thicker in time and becomes a cyst-like mass if not removed. Once the mass was removed we did as you did and rubbed vaseline over the eye for several days until the eye appeared completely normal. The problem did not reoccur.

I will try the vaseline around it. She is starting to somewhat close her eye again but it might be because its still sore. I hope it doesnt come back, she holds a special place in my heart!

I know about "special". The picture show my Pablo. Two weeks ago my wife did surgery on an eye where the pus had hardened to a cyst. The surgery was a success.

    Good luck.

Looks like what you got out of the eye was pus. Could have been injury, something in the eye, or some kind of respiratory infection. If you are in the US you can get Terramycin eye ointment at Tractor Supply stores and some feed stores. Flush out the eye with saline or eye wash, and use the ointment twice a day. It's a very tiny tube so may be locked up, so ask for it if you can't find it.

X2. You can buy saline eye wash (drug store brand or Bausch and Lomb) is good and only a few dollars. The pus may recur, so try to check it often.
