Fake laying?

I have an older hen. It seems she will lay in the nesting box, but does not lay an egg. Is this a characteristic of older hens who are at the end of their laying cycle? Will she lay eggs anymore? I'm not sure when the last time was that she produced an egg.

I have a pullet that does that!!! I don't think she has actually laid an egg yet.
