What is your favorite breed of turkeys and why.Mine is Burbon reds. I like them because they have white pin feathers and because they are in my opion one of the most beautiful breeds of turkeys.
My favorite is Black Spanish. I had a Tom that I won with a $5 raffle ticket once..then I was hooked. He procreated many many babies before the farm I was living on was sold and I had to sell all my birds. Now I have bought my own farm in Kentucky so that won't happen again. I could not find anyone who has Black Spanish here..but because I was "turkeyless" I did purchase some Royal Palms. They are beautiful birds, but I still want Black Spanish...until I can get some, the other half of that barn will remain empty. I didn't want to get hatchery chicks because of the lack of size and quality. My Herman weighed in at 40 pounds when he was sold..lol. They will always remain my favorite.
Hi I'm not sure yet. I'm just getting started well my grandchildern and I. What kind do you think be best to start with. right now they have 6 white hens. but can't fine tom for them. Where is the best place to find one. We where also told that are hens are to big to be bread. what do you think
My favorite breed of turkey is the Royal Palm. Because they are one of the smaller varieties, which I like. Also their beautiful coloring.
Quote:I have always heard even whith the meat birds that the hen will mate whith toms a long as the toms can reproduce naturaly. BB whites toms and BBbronze toms are the only breeds that can't breed naturally. I would try to find a hertage breed tom.
Quote:I Know murrymcmurry has them I'm just not sure If you want 15. Thanks..but I stated the reason why I don't want to get them from a hatchery.
Where would one reckamend to get a tom turkey from and would they ship. because i live in area that has little to no fowl to be found
I didn't want to get hatchery chicks because of the lack of size and quality. Yes be careful of what you buy these days,if size is a trait you want. They all get good size with enough time to grow. Most breeders don't care about grow out sizes as stated many times on here and other forums. So make sure to ask what their 7-8 month grow weight is, if you are interested in size. if they tell you that it will take a year or year and half to two years to get any size on them, then you know they are working with bad genes, in their breeding stock.
