Maybe this has been done before, but I thought I would try to start a poll about favourite foods (of chickens). If I get enough responses I'll add up the votes for each food type and produce something like a top ten, with numbers of votes for each. My hens have cast two votes:

Our first hen, a wee white cutie called Leia, was a very food-oriented bird and would happily accept almost anything you offered her, but went WILD for red berries. If she spotted us picking wild strawberries she would actually start to panic at the thought that they might not be intended for her. In retrospect, this may have been because we didn't often let her out from her pen (the garden wasn't chicken-proof at the time), so she didn't get enough fresh plant material in her diet.

Our current flock, which is 10 birds strong of lots of different breeds and ages (up to 16 weeks) doesn't care so much about berries, reserving its strongest passion for cheese. Crouching down among them while holding a small lump of cheese elicits a feeding frenzy response reminiscent of shark documentaries. It is invariably very funny, but can be slightly scary too.

Anyone else?

My girls have their separate favourites

HAM! My girl Milly will JUMP for ham, shes so flat footed its adorable!
WATERMELON! Heather will peck and try to chase away the other hens when watermelon is offered!
FRESH CORN! Ebony reminds me of a dog, she the smallest and lowest ranking in my flock and she will grab a kernel then run off into a corner or under a bush to savor it, then run all the way back and do it all over again, if there's any left! lol

Not sure about Echo yet, shes a pig with everything, but they all love their "chicken cake"

OK, early days yet but we have a clear leader in our food polls. I'm gonna have to try out watermelon on our chicks, though most of them aren't too keen on eating stuff that makes their beaks messy!

Watermelon (3 votes)
Pasta (2 votes)
Corn (2 votes)
Ham (1 vote)
Cheese (1 vote)
Red berries (1 vote)

Thanks for those who voted so far! More votes welcome.
