We have had our chickens since March 2014. During the time when the temps dropped to single digits, we put the heat lamp (that we used when they were chicks) in the coop house - it seemed to be way too hot for them, and 3 didn't even want to go into their house at night, so we took it out.

A few days later we noticed that a spot on the feathers on one chicken seemed a little funky. Cut to today, about a week later, and it looks like the following - again, we don't know that this is due to the heat lamp (maybe she was the lucky one to be sitting right under it) - so I wanted to post this here to see if any experienced flock owners had an idea.

She is still acting quite normal and taking treats and running around the yard pecking at the ground with the rest of the flock.

    Thank you!

Those are new feathers coming in.

She may have been pecked when the light was on and especially if they were a little grumpy with that light on- someone may have plucked her feathers. After the feathers are plucked out, new ones come in.

    All looks good to m!
