hello! I have a chicken that started losing feathers several months ago. At first I thought she was beginning to molt, but it has never spread beyond the neck/shoulder area. Here are my observations:
-feathers seem to dry out/break off midshaft
-no bleeding or scabs. Occasional redness on skin
-dead shafts will eventually fall out, but new feathers will never fully grow before loss reoccurs.
-it seems to have spread to two of the other three chickens in my flock, although their feather loss is not nearly as pronounced yet

I have looked for signs of mites on them and their coop and found none. I’ve treated them for mites anyway, they’ve been moved to a brand new coop and part of the state in the last month, new bedding and mite treatment since they’ve been here, extra protein, no observed bullying or feather pulling...still the same! Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I should also add that they have not acted sick at all! No change in eating, drinking, laying, or energy levels.

I don't have an answer, but the same question. I discovered a red mite on the coop and think it may be related. I've ordered Elector PSP to treat the mites. Stuff is EXPENSIVE but highly recommended.

No rooster, but I did find incredibly tiny bugs (mites? Lice?) on their skin (saw with a light and slight magnification). Treated with a lime and sulfur dust bath and hopefully they are on the mend lol
