2 month old mottled orpingtons. Is it normal for them to not have this many feathers? I have to add they are the craziest birds I’ve owned. I can’t look at them without them freaking out and spilling their food everywhere.

If they're both balding, you may have a feather mite problem. Permethrin poultry dusting powder is safe to dust them with. That's what I would do. And again in a week. You probably won't be able to see the mites, so just consider the dusting a treatment to rule out that particular cause.

Feed extra protein and that should stimulate new feather growth.
