Hi I want you to know if its good to keep corn and wheat seeds as a chickens diet (mostly in the winter ) because everyone in my town just throws these food around and chicken like them and stay healthy everyday and lay good eggs never had soft eggs in my town(small town) and so did I when I had chickens 2 years ago everyday corn and wheat ,never had any problem they are kept free ranged maybe that's why there healthy should I stay like this (we don't have pellets or laying feed but have grower mash for chicks)

You could feed grower to the birds their whole lives, with oyster shell also available as a calcium source, and then the grains as scratch feed. What kind of egg production do you get /year from these birds? I would guess that they are more traditional, old style chickens, not the more demanding high production types. Mary

    Africa - near the equator
in order to give a balanced diet, i'd go for the growers mash and go easy on the maize or wheat - also provide oyster shell or other additional calcium supplement in a separate feeder.

Maybe you can get your hands on spent brewers grains. The protein content of that is over 20%. The problem is it spoils super fast unless dried so must be used fresh. I bet you can find a local brewery and get fresh spent grain on a weekly basis to fortify their diet of poor protein grain that is currently their staple. A boost of nutrition a day a week will do them wonders.

Barely and other grains that were used to brew beer. Prior to brewing they are started to sprout without sprouting then cooked, then used to brew alcohol. After brewing process brewers will sell/give to people with livestock or throw away. It will range in protein from mid 20% to mid 30% and be high in vitamin B. The flakes your thinking of is brewers yeast.
