    Hi,
Lots of times when we study the history of these heritage large dual purpose fowl, we find that they were originally a meat breed which was tweaked to also become a good layer. Often the chicks from such breeds do better raised on Meatbird formula then just a regular chick feed. Meatbird formulas can be fed to such Fowl from hatch till you decide otherwise. The point being that dual purpose fowl with a meat bird foundation just do better with 18 to 20+ protein in their crumbles. Agway Meatbird And Naturewise Meatbird (both by Cargill) are just two examples.
    Best, Karen

Or Purina Flock Raiser, a 20% protein all-flock feed. Something fresh at your feed store, whatever good quality brand is available. Mary
