Hello!
We own a big old barn built in the 1860's. I am currently turning an old animal stall into the chicken's winter vacation home. Anyone have suggestions as to what put down on the floor? What's there now is dirt. The fine dusty stuff that kicks up really easy. I worry the chickens sensitive lungs can't handle it so want to make it better for them. Was thinking a thick layer of organic soil - then sphagnum moss - then pine shavings or hay. Ideas? Opinions?
Thanks!

You could do that, but deep litter will be fine over the dirt, and it won't be too dry for long! I have stall mats over concrete in parts of my coop and like them there, but wouldn't bother over a dirt floor. Level it out first. Mary
