Female duck needs a friend

I have an female duck that I raised along with her mate for 8 years. Someone came in their pen the other night and stole the male. She is not herself so I need to get another duck to keep her company. I have been looking at getting an older duck for her. But should I go with another male or should I go with a female. Not sure how older ducks can get along.

I would say to get her a female friend, no need for a drake unless you need babys.
