I Just saw my female Rouen get on top of my female Pekin duck. Is this odd or do they do that??
Maybe they were fighting
That is not that unusual. I have two females (sisters) that do that now and then. It's nothing to worry about. It doesn't effect egg production. Both my girls lay an egg a day.
They're feeling their hormones. I call it "hop on top" and a friend of mine calls it "surfing." It's normal for ducks.
It's a sign, if they haven't begun laying yet, that they are getting ready to do so.
Surfing ??? .....................
Yep that's not uncommon, its hormones like Amiga said and some animals do it when they are ready to reproduce or come into production, I've had female ducks do that before, I've had female goats mount each other when they are comming into heat, and our female chihuahua has been mounting the cats lately, so its common in many animals and nothing to worry about.
Lol! My female gets ontop of my male! When I didn't know she was a girl it was REALLY confusing around here XD
My pekins females do that too.
I see it with my Muscovy girls alot during mating season.
