Hello! How hard is it to tell female vs male in a silkie? I have two silkies, they hatched may 11. I am just wondering if they should be laying by now or not if they are female. I’ve included a picture of my Naked neck, Ms. Frizzle😍

To answer your other question: silkies start to lay between 7-9 months, not unheard of to go over a year. I did not see the hatch date originally, at 5 months of age I would have expected to see more comb and wattles in a roo. Likely pullet, but post more photos as already stated. :)

Sorry I didn’t get those pics yesterday. We had bad weather. After looking, I’m pretty sure my black silkie is a roo. I’ll probably keep him though. He’s so docile. He loves being held!

Hi there... Was wondering if you would be interested in selling a few of Ms. Frizzle's fertile eggs this coming up spring? I just love naked neck silkies. I had a white Roo a few years back and he was such a good little buddy. Got out of chickens for a while but after seeing Ms Frizzle... it's made me want to get back into it. Please let me know if you have any to offer. Thanks

Dennis

Unfortunately, I caught both of them crowing. So I’ve come to the conclusion that they are both Roos. ☹️
But I will be getting more silkies later this year, and hopefully they will be hens!
