New chicken mama, here! I bought 6 chicks from TSC a couple weeks ago. They were supposed to all be pullets, but a friend of mine told me that TSC has a bad reputation for having males in the bunch. This one chick in particular has started to be mean and chases around another chick in particular. Does this chick look like a female? Also, how old do you think it is? I was told that they were probably 2-3 weeks old when I got them, so that would make them 4-5 weeks old? I have some Sussex (brown chicks) that seem a little older since they have more feathers.

Ugh, thanks you guys...that's what I was afraid of. Now I am wondering about the other 5. The sussex are pretty friendly, but I can't tell from their comb. The other yellow one (the one that is getting picked on), I am wondering if it is also a roo and maybe that's why the one keeps picking at it.

I had my husband take these second pics and he didn't get as good of pics as I did, but what do you think about these? Male of female?

The yellow chicks are Orpington's. I am assuming that they are Buff Orpingtons. The brown ones were called Sussex, but I don't know which kind of Sussex. The Sussex seem to be the most curious and friendly so far. I took all the chicks to a hatchery today where I picked up a Cuckoo Lavender Orpington and a Blue Americauna. The couple that owned the hatchery said that they thought all my chicks looked like pullets...but that one buff orpington is different. It's still pecking at the one other chick and it tends to run off from the bunch and do it's own thing, unless of course it's picking on the other buff Orpington.

Buff chick is a Cockerel.
