Anyone tried giving their ducks fennel? I got one in my farmer's basket and we won't eat it. Just wondering if they might like it.

I believe fennel is in the same family as carrot. I can't imagine that it would cause issue unless ducks can't eat carrot greens.

But seriously, slice it up and do a quick refrigerator pickle with it instead.

I tried to give my girls fennel tops and they wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. Haven't tried the bulb part with them though, that we put in a stew for us!

I've fed fennel fronds and cooked bulb to my hens. I chop the fronds herb-style ( mince). My hens enjoyed it. It lasted longer than any other treat because I thin k a little goes a long way.

My favorite fennel recipe is to braise it in milk to make a sauce. It just tastes yummy not anise-y like fennel.
