    how long could a hen stay fertile if she loses her mate.

    That's funny. I just read an article this spring that said 25 days. [​IMG] I suspect the better answer is to say that hens definitley don't stop being fertile after the tom stops servicing them. The length of time surely varies from bird to bird, and probably lasts at least 15 day, with some birds staying fertile much longer.
