Fertile eggs at grocery store, ok to incubate? Newbie question

I'm new at owning chickens, only been 1 month now. I'm looking into hatching eggs at a later time. My local grocery store sells fertile eggs to eat but I'm wondering if you can use that to incubate? Will they hatch? Just curious. Thanks.

I've never heard of a grocery store selling fertile eggs, but I know that to hatch eggs, they're not supposed to be washed. And coming from a store, I would think that yes, they'd have to have been washed in order to sell.

It's been done before on here loads of times - refridgeration and washed eggs aren't ideal and you wouldn't get the hatch rate you would have without those conditions, but it's not bad. You'll probably get a variation of leghorn from grocery store eggs.

Also keep in mind - diet of the parents is very important when you're selling hatching eggs. It will affect the viability of the embryo and factory farmers aren't known to feed a balanced diet. Someone on here hatched eggs from the store and ended up with a three-legged chick they named Tripod.
