About a month ago one of our hens, 6 month old Amercauna, was ill. We woke up to her laying in the coop, not willing to get up, she was honking like a goose. Her body was tensing up as she honked, about 20 honks per minute.

We are new to chicken raising FYI.

We though maybe she was egg bound, we gave her a warm bath, massaged her gently and kept her inside for the day. Her condition didn't improve. We took her to out DVM and he gave her fluids and pain killers. Within an hour she was back to herself. We kept her inside for a few days to give to make sure she was fully on the mend. Turns out she wasn't egg bound (She still hasn't laid.) Does anyone have an idea of what it may have been wrong? Our vet does have a history with chickens but he's stumped.

    Thanks for any insight.[IMG]

It almost sounds as if something was lodged in her Esophagus and eventually worked it's way loose.

That was one of our theories. I hope it doesn't happen again. Thanks!
