We moved to a new home 18 months ago...shortly after moving our last 8 hens and roo were taken.......my husband has been working on a new and improved coop....our old design was a wood base with cattle panels bent and tarps pulled over , with plywood ends...it worked well for us for 6 years but being unattended for 2 days allowed something to get our flock.....
We have learned several good lessons.
Our old coop was far away from the house, preventing us from hearing if there was a disturbance at night....a fully sealed in coop is better... We have lazors at my husband's business to cut materials and he decided to design and cut out the coop using them. It was quite amazing, he designed the nesting boxes into the doors, cut out a floor, all the walls and did final assembly at our home.. we did 2 coats of primer and high gloss white for interior, it will have an auto chicken door and a window on each side next week, we did the final exterior paint tonight...it will also get a metal roof....our babies are 2 to 3 weeks old and move in this weekend. I will have much more to add but here are some pictures of progress .
