I got a Silver Wydonette & a Buff Orpington yesterday at the feed store. And all I can say is that they are the cutest things in the world. I have them in the house for now in a box with a warming light. It is a see through box and my husband and I spent the whole night just watching them run around. Our Golden Retriever spent all night next to their box keeping watch over them just like a Mommy. What a trip. Who thought that chickies could be so fun. We came to being chicken owners by a fluke. About 3 years ago this April we had a golden seabright bantam show up in the yard. She hung around for a couple of days (we thought she was a grouse) and I finally told my husband to put our some water. Next thing we know she is in the backyard and has been with us ever since. She slept in the tree till the fall that year and then we made her a coop for the winter. But I didn't want her to get cold so we brought her in and put her in a dog kennel for the winter in the laundry room. She is happy as a clam. We even give her worms for treats. She is a great layer and we thought she would enjoy having a friend or two around now. Question: How long should we wait before we introduce them all to each other?

Do it when they are about the same size make sure the big chicks are still smaller or the same size as the sebright. I can't wait to see pics of them toghether buff orphs and wyndottes get huge and sebrights are tiny

you got chicken fever the hard way.by a stray hen showing up an making your house her home.

I know. We wanted to get another bantam like her but we didn't want any roosters. And since you can only get straight run bantams, we did this instead. It would have killed me to have raised the chick and then find out it was a rooster and we would have to give it away. They are so fun.
