Using this as an op to pick up my chicks (I go through a mental "thing" to do it). They are so squishy. Only one hollered like holy hell. I introduced myself to all eight of them this morning while getting them out of the brooder.

I think the world deserves more pictures of them!
:love
Wish I could stay home today and oblige. Alas, I must report to work in one hour (still sitting online in pajamas) so I can purchase materials for a chicken coop. Online here now and apparently it is going to cost upwards of over $500  .

I have been reading about free this, and donated that . . . NOT here! Ughh. We had settled on this chain thing on Amazon, affordable. But my conscience is saying "Nooooo! Get/build a wood house for the ladies". We were going to add chicken fabric (or whatever its called); but what is the point of buying the structure then having to add chicken stuff over it? I might as well spend the money and get a secure coop.

They are a week old and time is a ticking.

I understand!
No free pallets to be had on Craig's list? Near me the big grocery stores heap their pallets out back and nobody cares if you take a few.
Other places I have found for free or low cost stuff are if there is a housing demolition or even remodelling going on there is often scrap to be had for the taking. And I use the Habitat for Humanity 'Restore' stores. They are not free but not high cost. I actually bough 4 school chairs there for my babies to use as hideouts from the big chickens during integration. Once they were no longer needed I cleaned them up and donated them right back to Habitat for Humanity so it was a win all around and it cost almost nothing.
Anyway, good luck with your little ones!

If you want to post a link/picture of what you're about to buy, people will gladly give opinions on how good/strong or bad/worthless it is. There are a lot of "coops" advertised that aren't worth the money.

Also, some things work great, but need a few modifications to make them work better as chicken housing.
