Twenty days ago I move my first broody hen on 15 eggs. I left her completely alone with the exception of filling her food and water dishes. Today I decided to check the eggs and see if there was anything happening. I was shocked, surprised and oh so happy to see a little wet chick stumbling about. I let mama be and checked her this evening while locking up my flock. When I lifted her up I saw two little fluffy butts. I also noticed a cracked egg but didn't inspect closely enough to determine if it was actually hatching or got broken. I really love the ease of a broody hen; no egg turning, no temperature adjustments or humidity monitoring - just set it and forget it. Here is a picture of mama and her current babies.
