My husband and I are building our first chicken coop and I wanted to share what we have so far. Any ideas, comments, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

We watched a lot of videos and decided to go with a 4’x8’ floor plan on a raised foundation with a sloping roof. We insulated the floor and walls with fiberglass insulation and the doors with rigid insulation. The coop is outside of the run with just the main chicken door going into the run. The back opens with two doors to make cleaning easy and accessible. We lined the floor with linoleum and will be using pine shavings for bedding. 3 nesting boxes are located on one side with a flip top for easy access. We also added two windows that we put on backwards so we can close them if necessary. The screens will be removed and replaced with hardware cloth. We are going to make a ledge above the nesting boxes where the chickens can go sit by the window. On the opposite side we are installing roosting bars. We have brown corrugated roof panels for the roof. It’s still a work in progress but we’re hoping to have it done in the next week or so. That’s pretty much what we have so far besides other small details. What do you guys think?

When you put the roof on, be sure to have some eves on it for ventilation. With having put insulation in the walls, heat and moisture can build up inside.
It's much more important to have good ventilation than insulation, that's unless you live above the artic circle.
:old
But below the Antarctic Circle, you'd be raising penguins instead of chickens and wouldn't need insulation there either. :gig

Ditto Dat!!!

Would make nest open on back side instead of top to avoid any leaks.
Will you cover the run?
How many birds will you have?

Oh, and.....
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, (laptop version shown), then it's always there!
