SO this morning I let the girls out and locked them out of where the coop is cause theres a hole we havnt fixed in the fence. Shirley immediately started parading around the lawn making VERY loud sqawking noises...and escaping onto the deck. Around lunchtime, after her 10th escape attempt I locked her in the coop with Henrietta. I then went inside for a little while, then looked out the window. Shirley and Henrietta were pecking at something on the ground. I rushed out, fearing a dead bird (my cats put them in strange places) and came back with something small and round...

That's not bad, sizewise, and look at that interesting color! It's a pinto egg! [IMG]

    Congratulations!

Woo-Hoo! We had our first egg a couple weeks ago and a second hen has followed suit. Our Barred Rock's fourth egg she ever laid was a double yolker, boy are we proud! I'll bet Shirley has made you just as proud- way to go!

Ok, I got another one this morning --- I had put a golf ball in the nesting box after she laid the first egg two days ago, so now instead of it being next to the waterer, its laid next to the golf ball! And its bigger!
