Hi,

Fiiiinnally!!! Our first egg. One of the RIR layed one this morning (you could hear her blocks away). She layed under the blackberries in a very inaccessible spot, and she is staying on it. What do I do? Take it when she gets up and replace with golf ball?

They have a nice coop attached to a 12x12 day cage, but they free range over about 1/4 fenced acre during the day.

Advice, please? Thanks!

There are actually eggs!

Maybe she's waiting for you to congratulate or thank her???

I would just take it I guess...

Give her a few minutes and she will probably get off. I doubt she's gone broody with the first, but mine have been known to hang out for 30 minutes or more after they lay an egg.
I would not replace it with a golf ball, but put one where you WANT her to lay.

Mine always rest on their eggs for a little while and then wander off. I would not encourage her to lay there with the golf ball. See is you can get them to lay in a more convenient spot for you. Just remember to check that blackberry spot in the future when collecting eggs.

If you throw some treats nearby, she'll forget all about that egg. lol

Congratulations!!!
