We got our first egg! My son ran up and told me that Stormy (our black sex link) was in the nesting box making a lot of noise. I went down and peeked in, and she wasn't making any sound but was sitting in one of the nesting boxes!

We sat on the back patio for awhile, then heard the egg song! Soon she strolled out, and we checked, and there it was!
Is that blood on it? If so, is that normal? 20180622_160106.jpg

Egg-citing !!!yes it’s very normal wash it off with a wet paper towel , she’s new and it will stop. Congratulations.
My hens all start screaming when another is laying , I think it’s words of encouragement

When I got my first batch of babies just over 2 years ago - I was impatient. I thought they would never start laying - I was so excited when they finally did! I now have 6 hens - and more than enough nesting boxes in my coop for each - but they fight over the same one constantly. They "argue" so loud - even the rooster runs away.
