I'm so excited and proud! I got my first egg!
My 4 black austrolorps are 23.5 weeks old and 3 of them have been squating for a week or so. Yesterday morning I heard the egg song. I ran out to the coop to find Bertie at the coop entrance calling out. I backed away to give her some privacy. When I checked 10 minutes later she was in a nest box looking comfortable and calm. I had to go to work unfortunately. When I got home there was a perfect small egg and also an egg with no shell or membrane. The unshelled egg was perfect (yolk whole) next to the shelled egg. So I'm guessing Bertie layed her egg and then one of the other ladies went in and gave it a try but didn't get it quite right! Haha!
I can't believe how happy that egg has made me! You'd think it was my first grandchild or something!
