My not quite 4 month old chickens have layed an egg. The man at the feed store here in Montana has told me to keep them on starter/grower, which is medicated, until at least 5 months. Are the eggs ok to eat and should I switch them to a laying mash. Not knowing what to do, thanks for the help!

First off, welcome to BYC from a fellow Montanan! Where are you? I am in Conrad.

Second, yes the eggs are safe to eat.

Third, I started feeding layer pellets as soon as they started to lay. I don't think it would hurt them to switch them over now. It didn't affect ours at all.

Welcome!!! And congrats on the first egg.
My girls aren't laying yet. Still waiting. Patiently!

Congrats on your first egg!!
It is so exciting to get your first egg.
We just ate our first egg this morning, and the first one we
cracked open was a double yoker. Mine are also on medicated chick
feed. we are in the process of changing over to layer, but most of the posts i've seen here is that they are fine to eat.

Thanks for the information. I still have one bag of the starter so I think I will mix with the Layena until it's gone. Don't want to throw the money away. I am south of Livingston. You guys and gals are the best with helping with an answer as soon as I write:D
